Welcome to Room Nineteen's Blog page. Room Nineteen is a Year 3 class at Botany Downs Primary School in Howick, Auckland, New Zealand. The teachers are Mrs McIntosh and Mrs Muir. Keep updated with news from Room Nineteen by becoming a follower of our blog. Mrs Muir had a baby in August so we are lucky to have Mrs Schwalger instead. Then in term 4 Mrs McIntosh is helping Mrs Johnston, so we have another lovely teacher, called Miss McCarra.

Matariki
K.J:
Matariki is seven stars known as the seven sisters which is a symbol of Maori New Year. It also tells them if their crops are going to be successful or not by how bright they are.
Matariki has two meanings ‘Gods Eyes’ and ‘Little Eyes’.
There are lots of ways to celebrate Matariki. This is some of the ways- sleep under the stars, have a feast, do a dance. Happy Matariki !
M.B:
Matariki is known as the seven stars. On June 21st you can see them. When the Maori see them they have a big party.
Matariki means ‘Gods Eyes’.
M.M:
Matariki is the seven stars but some people call them the seven sisters. There’s one mum with her 6 daughters. When they are close to each other that means it is going to be a cold winter.
